Westport Montessori is a Montessori school at 3930 Baltimore Avenue in Kansas City’s Westport neighborhood, close to Midtown, the Country Club Plaza, Volker, and Hyde Park. Our certified Montessori Guides nurture independence and curiosity in carefully prepared classrooms, open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Christina Wright

With 30 years of experience in early childhood, elementary, and Montessori education, my passion for caring for children began at a young age and has guided my life’s work. I take great pride in being an advocate for children, ensuring that every child’s needs are met each and every day. My commitment goes beyond academics—I strive to foster independence, spark curiosity, and inspire a lifelong love of learning in a nurturing, high-quality environment.

I believe Montessori education is more than a philosophy—it is a powerful approach to building a strong foundation for both children and their families. My leadership focuses on creating environments where children thrive, educators are empowered to grow, and families feel deeply supported. I am dedicated to staff development, community engagement, and building programs that are enriching, inclusive, and rooted in the needs of the community we serve.

What ages does Westport Montessori serve?

Westport Montessori serves children from infancy through Pre-Kindergarten, including Pre-Primary, Primary, and Pre-K programs. Call (816) 753-6633 to ask about current openings for your child’s age.

Why do Montessori classrooms look so open?

A Montessori classroom is a prepared environment. Low shelves, child-sized furniture, and clear areas for different kinds of work let children choose materials on their own and put them back, which builds independence and focus.

Are your Guides Montessori certified?

Yes. Our Guides are certified in the Montessori approach and are trained to observe each child and support their next step.

Do children learn other languages at Westport Montessori?

Yes. Children hear Spanish, French, and sign language as part of their day with our Guides.

What does Pre-K cover?

Pre-K is the third year of the Primary cycle. Children work on cursive handwriting, reading, the decimal system and the four operations, geography of the seven continents, and hands-on science.

What enrichment programs are offered?

Children can take part in Tiny Picassos, STEM, and phonics. Wee Wonder and Soccer Shots are offered onsite by outside providers.
